One of the most important design factors in any kitchen is the countertop color. Below, you’ll find the most important things to keep in mind counterwhen choosing a granite countertop color for your home.

1)      Find a granite warehouse with a large selection. You want to make sure you have the ability to see all of the available colors and not just a few little samples on a board. Also make sure that they have full slabs of granite for you to see.

2)      When you visit the warehouse, bring your cabinet sample or a door from your existing cabinets. Hold the sample up to the granite as you find ones you like. You should be able to tell right away if it is a good match or not.

3)      If you are building a new home, you will choose your flooring color AFTER the granite selection. If you are working with an existing floor, please be sure to bring a color sample along of the flooring and make sure the granite goes well with that. Although they will not be directly next to each other, you still want to make sure the colors are complimentary and work well together.

4)      Once you select a color that works well, make sure that you LOVE it. Don’t settle for something that looks good but you may not like. This is something that will be a defining element of your kitchen and you need to really find the color appealing in order to live with it.

5)      Once your final granite selection is made, ask the granite warehouse to pull out 5 or 6 slabs for you to view. Make sure the slabs are the same color and that you point out any dark/light spots or any pattern that you do not like and would like to exclude when they cut your kitchen. You may also request a revisit once they measure your kitchen so you can see what cuts they are making and how that will affect the color/pattern. Granite countertops are a great investment for your new kitchen, so be sure to view all of the available selections and make informed decisions when choosing a color.

Hardware Care For Your Home

A hinge may just seem like a hinge, but each hinge is designed for use in a particular situation. For example, a basic five-knuckle plain bearing full mortise hinge is designed for use on a standard weight door that gets little use. It also cannot be used with a door closer. On the other hand, a three-knuckle spring hinge can be used with a door closer. When purchasing hinges, tell your supplier the weight of the door, the expected traffic level and the details of any other devices that will be installed on the door. This way you can get the correct hinge for the job and not find the door literally coming unhinged in the future.

Doors can also be fitted with pivot sets. These are typically floor-mounted, although some are jam-mounted. Pocket pivots are also available. These allow the door to open flush to the corridor and are commonly found in hospitals or other settings where the door needs to be completely out of the way when open. Just like hinges, pivot sets need to be selected based on the weight and expected usage of the door. Pivots are available for doors from 200 to 500 pounds. Some pocket pivots are also rated for use on fire doors.

Flush bolts and strikes are designed to work either on metal or wood doors. Options for this hardware include manual flush bolts, automatic flush bolts, constant latching flush bolts, auxiliary fire latches and dust proof strikes. The best flush bolts share some common features: meet  are non-handed, offer optional dust proof strikes, and have low actuation forces. You’ll need to know how the door frame is prepared when ordering flush bolts.

Put the finishing touches on a door with decorative, yet functional hardware. Kick plates and push plates protect the door from damage. Pulls can be coordinated with the decor of the building. These items are available in a variety of finishes. Floor stops, wall stops and door silencers all improve the function of the door. Even these hardworking items are available in design styles to complement the building design or to blend unobtrusively into the background.

Professional painters are almost always highly skilled and trained in their craft, ready to leave that professional looking paint job on their clients’ homes. Things have not changed much throughout the years, but distrust in contracted work has been growing as more and more people have bad experiences with home improvement contractors. Finding a contractor who will perform the work in an acceptable manner and also respect both the homeowner and the property can be a great find for anybody.

A home painting contractor who has the right stuff can be described not only as one who is highly skilled in exterior house painting, but also is a respectable, trustworthy contractor who cares about the homeowner as much as he cares about the project. Many contractors hold little regard for their client’s property, often leaving a mess of hamburger wrappers and soda cans on the lawn, as well as those unsightly tire marks creating puddles of mud. It is this disrespectful contractor who has given many deserving a home painting contractor a bad name. Deciphering the good from the poor can be a tricky task, but it is achievable.

Go to a home painting contractor who is committed to keeping a clean work area and job site so that your lawn is spared from the trampling and messiness that often associates so many construction sites. Contractors should be respectful enough to show up on time each day until the job is completed. Find a company with a good history of customer satisfaction and commitment to and genuine interest in their clients’ projects. These items will make the whole project go very smoothly.
